ABOUT THE NAME
Friends of Food For Thought began in 1991 as part of Denver's Supplemental Food Program. While moms and dads were picking up extra food for the family, the kids were able to pick up a free book in our first Giving Library. Sometimes, our volunteers would read with the kids, after they had helped them pick out a book.
The Supplemental Food Program closed a few years ago. Fortunately, we were able to continue our partnership with Denver Human Services. We moved our books and our volunteers to the Castro Building where we give books to all of the younger children who come to the building with their parents. The kids are able to read, while their parents wait for services like job and food assistance.
While we've expanded our book-giving to organizations outside of Denver Human Services, we're still providing hundreds of books every month to the kids who stop by 1200 Federal.
